Memórias da Nossa Gente: a história do município de São José de Ribamar a partir de relatos orais

Abstract

This article deals with the construction of the history of the municipality of São José de Ribamar based on a comparative analysis between the official versions of history and the oral accounts of local residents. The study aims to create a comprehensive overview of the different perspectives on the origin of the city, rescuing the rich web of narratives, traditions and values that make up its identity. The research is based on the oral narratives of local residents, enriched by personal experiences passed down from generation to generation. These accounts are interwoven with the historical records in the literature, allowing for a comparative analysis that sheds light on the influences on historical representations over time. Through the voices of residents from different generations, an in-depth understanding of their individual perspectives on the city’s history is sought. The study not only contributes to an understanding of the history of São José de Ribamar, but also dialogues with the “Memories of Our People” project run by the Municipal Education Department. It aims to strengthen the sense of cultural identity and preserve collective memory, disseminating it in the school curriculum and among the community. In summary, this article presents an enriching approach to the construction of São José de Ribamar’s history, bringing together the voices of residents and official historical records. Through this interweaving, we celebrate the richness of its cultural and religious traditions.
