Abstract

The public health emergency triggered by the spread of the new coronavirus in Brazil, in March 2020, caused the suspension of activities in schools and universities as a way to maintain social distance and prevent the spread of the virus. This text analyzes the implications of this measure with regard to the large-scale adoption of "remote education" as a substitute for classroom teaching and the use of new information and communication technologies. We argue that this process strengthens the presence of technologies in education and accelerates the adoption of a future hybrid model at all levels of education in a post-pandemic moment, which favors the interests of companies operating in the educational market and of neoliberal governments, for reducing the costs of public education, transferring this responsibility to families. We also discuss the impacts of remote teaching on teaching work and on the act of teaching, which can have irreversible consequences for pedagogical activity.
