This article discusses the notion of authentic material in teaching-learning Additional Languages (ALs), within the critical perspective of linguistic education aimed at the promotion of citizenship. It analyses relationship between identity and language use as a set of resources conventionally used in social life. In addition, the article suggests usage possibilities of new information technologies as resource to foster the development of ALs by means of the authentic material concept.
